New Balance Turf Review – No BS Breakdown

New Balance Turfs are everywhere right now. Big names like Lindor and Ohtani wear them, and the brand has become a staple in pro baseball.

But endorsements aside – how do they actually perform?

They perform well. These turfs are popular among the best for a reason. They are comfortable, having pretty good durability and many sleek styles.

Materials

Top of the Shoe

The top is made of mesh / synthetic knit. The breathable mesh helps with airflow, which keeps them cool but also can reduce odor over time compared to heavier turf shoes.

Bottom of the Shoe

You will be hitting in the cages, running on turf, working out and more in these so it’s important the bottom has traction. New Balance uses Outsole on the bottoms which is rubber with nubs/studs giving these turfs grip. Are they perfect to run in? No. Are they perfect to hit in? Yes.

Price

$60-$100

You can find great discounts on the previous year New Balance Turfs. They are the same quality, a year late, for a great price.

Clearcut Breakdown

Comfort – Worth it

Traction – Worth it – For batting practice, not for games.

Durability – Mid

Best For

  • Players using them for batting practice
  • Players using them for indoor training (lift, run)
  • Smelly feet

Not For

  • Players looking for game wearable turfs
  • Players who care about slight fraying, deterioration

Downside

These turfs are reasonably priced, and they will last a long time. They just might start falling apart. I have noticed that the heel collar of the shoe will fray early on. I don’t care about this, but some people may. I have also had the outsole near my heel detach slightly from the shoe, causing a flap.

In all, they were wearable for an 100+ game season. My definition of wearable could be different than yours, but they are solid overall.

Side Note

Don’t get turfs confused with molded cleats. If you plan to play a baseball game indoors or on turf (and they don’t allow metal), you need to buy molded cleats. These provide way better traction than turfs. Turfs aren’t meant for games, just practice.

Overall Verdict

New Balance Turfs are comfortable. They are moderately durable. They are the perfect practice and workout shoe.

These turfs are a Buy.

The hype is real.
